John Carlson out 3-4 weeks with lower-body injury
Washington Capitals defenseman John Carlson is expected to miss the next three-to-four weeks after undergoing a procedure for a lower-body injury.
The Washington Post spoke with Capitals coach Barry Trotz, who called the issue a “nagging thing he had all of the time.”
On Dec. 28, Carlson missed his first game after 412 straight appearances. He sat 12 games overall with the problem. This procedure is considered to be related to that issue.
According to the Post, Carlson is expected to be placed on long-term injured reserve, which would open up his $3.967 million salary cap hit. This could lead to Washington making a few extra moves around Monday’s trade deadline.
According to General Fanager, if Carlson is sent to LTIR, the Capitals will have $3.88 million in trade deadline salary cap space.
The 26-year-old Carlson has averaged 24:09 of ice-time this season, second-most on the Capitals behind Matt Niskanen. His 31 points lead Washington’s defensemen.
At 45-11-4, the Capitals lead the NHL with 94 points.
